Brought to you from the makers of tampax, hose, and heels
I want to tell you about the amazing Baby Shower we had last weekend. About some ofmyfavoritepeople that all came to celebrate our little boy’s birth. About the loot, the food, and the activities. I want to tell you about how wepaintedcanvases and wrote birthday cards to our little man and how these things mean more to me than a million gifts.
I want to, but I can’t because maternity clothes are made by a man.
While rummaging through all the shower photos, I realized ninety percent of them were not fit for the World Wide of Webs. Some smartass at Old Navy, Gap and Motherhood Maternity came up with the brilliant idea that bellies will look great under cute little shirts that show ample cleavage. (Because? Pregnant women have cleavage, yes, thank you, we do.) Some smartass didn’t think that bellies grow after week 25 and certainly don’t ever appear to be about to “pop” at week, say, week 33.
Or, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this really is the fashion and I’m just so unhip, I wear socks with my Tevas and Pads during my period. Because if it was made by a woman, I’d be wearing a muumuu.
Hee hee hee… I can’t stand some of that stuff the maternity designers think will be “cute” on women carrying watermelons…
Muumuu’s aren’t that bad are they? Hey, my dad wears socks with his sandals and he’s pretty cool.
I am having this same problem, and it is extremely irritating. Maternity clothes always say “buy your pre-pregnancy size” and that works until sometime late in the second trimester, when I have to buy shirts one or even TWO sizes bigger just to get the TUM COVERAGE. The shirt is hanging off my shoulders, but at least it is not leaving bare a swath of skin.
I can’t believe I’m going to admit this and risk being mobbed by you all, but I LOVE maternity clothes. It was on of my fav parts about being pregnant. Whenever I walk by the maternity stores I get all wistful and dream of wearing those cute clothes. Yes, I am a loser. Thank you for mentioning it.
I gave up on my maternity clothes a long time ago, I’m now 37 weeks. I’ve resorted to wearing my husbands sleep botttoms and one of his old white t-shirts. This is my uniform from now until I deliver. I go to the grocery store in plaid pj bottoms and my husbands white shirt, doctors why yes even there too. Hell, I’ll probably go to the hospital in the same attire. It is comfortable, my belly doesn’t poke out from under my shirts, and I’m the size of a small mansion so I might as well dress like one.
I wore a pair of sweatpants (size XL) and one of my husband’s shirts from about 35 weeks on. (I lived far north of the Mason-Dixon line at the time and muumuus were out of the question.
I found that the “cute” maternity clothes cost more than cute normal-woman clothes and I told myself I wasn’t going to buy ANYTHING that I could only wear for 4 months or so. All of my maternity clothes were hand-me-downs and it showed. I didn’t care, though. Pregnancy is blessedly temporary.
...And now I get to wear a bunch of really cute size 8 items that will last for at least 3 years. Whoopie, non-pregnant bod!
Well, I think you look great! I had the same problem when I was pregnant with Gabe, though. My boobs were spilling out the top and my belly was spilling out the bottom. All in all, lots of flesh spillage.
Awww..honey..I think you look just adorably precious! I friggin love the tummy! I’m even a bit jealous that I never carried like that. It’s not like you’re fat and are just letting your gut hang out..nu uh, that’s a baby in there and I’m sure no one has a problem seeing just a bit of him. I love it!
I honestly love that pic of you on the couch, so relaxed and happy and OH! Are those cake crumbs I see?
I love your belly, hanging out and all. I might be a rarity or maybe b/c my boobs started shrinking before Cricket was born and they haven’t stopped but I would kill for something to show off my clevage - or to make it look like I had some.
Ya know, I blame the whole letting the baby belly show tops on Jada Pinkett-Smith. Seemed when she was preggers with her kids, that was all she wore. Clothes that either showed the belly or acsentuate(sp?) it. Either way, you look like a very happy woman.
Hope all is well with you and your family, as always.
HA HA HA! (I can laugh because that’s about how I looked at this stage, too!) But I was irritated that you didn’t allow a “click to enlarge” option, as I wanted a better look at that belly! Wish I’d have thought to disable that little feature when I was busy bravely posting belly shots on my site. *sigh*
Oh, and THANK YOU for the nomination. I am so honored. As I posted in the past, I’ll never be Prom Queen, but I’m honored that at least one person (MRS. FLINGER, no less) likes me enough to vote for me!
You made my weekend!

Yeah for wonderful friends!
You look fabulous. I think the belly showing is the style these days.
Whew! The belly is certainly gorgeous, but I don’t think I’d want to go out in public with it sticking out, either! Its not like it doesn’t attract enough attention without the too short shirts, right?
Oh! Happy belated baby shower! (I hate being in Florida!) Look at all the art that you girls made! what a Great Idea! and the birthday cards! sweetest thing! Mrs Flinger, you are a special woman, you deserve all that!

I am 33 1/2 weeks and I am right there with ya!
For the last couple of days I have been wearing mens extra long tank tops under my shirts.
How designed this crap anyway? Don’t we deal with enough?
Hang in there!

I love the baby belly unleashed!!!!
Your baby shower pics are awesome. How fun.
Do you have a horn on your butt? (In reference to the 2nd photo.) If not, then you have a reason to complain.

Maybe it’s just me, but I think you look SUPER adorable. Really, really cute and glowy.

I really like that black tank , very pretty.
I totally lived in my collection of caftans last summer. They are a more cosmopolitan mumu.

the belly rocks! As someone who only made it to 32 weeks, I am jealous of the “pop!”
You look great Leslie! I had the same thoughts about maternity clothes. The last month is a killer.
Your shower looked awesome!!! FUN!
You look great! Now’s the time to go back to Starbucks and put your bare feet up on the table!
