Brutally Honst Monday: Yes? Or No?

This is an easy one, y’all. Is it rude to bring in your own lunch to an eating establishment?

Even if they don’t serve anything on your new diet?

Brutally Honest Monday

*Mr. Flinger’s Vote: OHMYGOD YOU ARE NOT TAKING FOOD IN TO STARBUCKS
**My Nanny’s Vote: Oh, hellya, it’s fine

I say it’s fine in a place like Starbucks since they don’t serve “real” food just snacky stuff.  If you have dietary restrictions like a nut allergy or something, it would be ok to bring your own food to a restaurant.  I don’t think I’d have the balls to do it myself unless I had to for health reasons.  I’m such a wuss when it comes to stuff like this.

    I say it’s all good too, b/c it’s a coffee place. I’d do it.

I say as long as you’re buying SOMETHING from the establishment (such as that there coffee I see in the pic, which I happen to know is a good $4 or $5), it’s totally fine.

I agree with the others- since it’s Starbucks and they dont serve much food, it’s okay. But not other places.

I think it’s fine as long as it’s not something that will bother other patrons (just-popped popcorn? stinky cheese?) and as long as you’re already buying a coffee. You’re not mooching, you’re being sensible. If you feel guilty about it you could always add an extra dollar to the tip jar (but not required).

If you’re buying a beverage, I say go for it.

I agree- a place like starbucks is ok.  But a real restaurant?  Nope.

what is that, spinach salad? I think it is only rude if you bring something relatively gross and/or stinky…or if you make loud chewing and slurping noises or especially those strange orgarm-y noises as you eat, like you are doing something against the law to an underage salad or something.

Maybe not at a sit down establishment, but at a place like that, totally.

I think that’s acceptable corporate coffee shop etiquette. I mean it’s Starbucks..you could probably even ask the baristas to heat it up in one of their sandwich ovens for you.

    What everyone else said.

However, I’m too chicken shit to ever do that for fear of getting yelled at.

    I have issues.

I find myself leaning toward no, but I have absolutely no idea why. (I bet I could figure it out if I had some coffee and something to eat.)

I agree with your nanny.  You are paying $100.00 for a cup of coffee you can bring in some of your own food.
    100% yes!

I think it’s ok as long as you buy something from there as well.  My kids would only eat McD for a long time, so we took a happy meal into many a fine dining establishment (read Outback).

I wouldn’t do it, especially now that Starbucks is trying to get into more “real” food like sandwiches and that sort of thing. I don’t like to get in trouble. But, I do bring food for my toddler to just about any restaurant we go to. So, I guess that’s just about the same thing.

I got the official word from Starbucks: It’s fine. As long as you purchase a drink (it can be a tall coffee) and aren’t being obnoxious to other patrons, no biggie. They even gave me a fork for my salad. So, mystery solved!

Thank you everyone! You gave me the balls to ask. grin

Ok…Here is my BEEF with that. Our family spends about 100 a month there. Between you, me and oma. SO…Considering because of US they are able to build so many and stay in business, YES, take your food in. If our family quit going for a month they would suffer. So they should bow down to us!!!

    smile
