If there’s ever a question
Our kids are images of our inner selves. I noted that in the past, when I saw so much of my own personality in her. But now that she’s older, I see how much of our mannerisms, our quirky characteristics and our obsessive/compulsive behaviors rub off on these impressionable little people.
For example.
Here I have documented the color coding our two year old has recently taken to. One day, blue became Daddy’s, red became LB’s and everything green became Mommy’s. We try to ask her what color the baby gets but her head spins in circles, her eyes glaze over and she starts to drool. We try to persuade her in to mixing up the colors and handing the wrong color to the other person but she’s way to bright for that. (Is it bright? Or anal like mommy?) And, in the end, she not only catches me asking for coffee, but steers me toward water. Then my choice is milk? Or water?
Not that she hears that all day long.

What a cutie! My daughter enjoys watching it and asks, “is that my friend? does she live far, far away?” I think she would sit here and watch it over and over again!

My daughter loves this movie too and now that she’s seen it she keep asking, “Again! Again! Again!” At least we’ve got something new to entertain us today.

This is interesting to me because I don’t see anything like myself or my husband in either of our kids! Maybe other people pick up on it or maybe the girls just have their own things going on.
Abby loves watching it too. She keeps pointing at LB saying “GUHL! GUHL!”
Hilarious! When you think about it, how much easier would the world be if everything we color coded according to ownership? A jury wouldn’t have to guess when there was an issue of property ownership at trial… A divorces attorney would make quick work of settlements - “Well, that’s blue, so clearly the husband get it when they divorce.” Children are way smarter than any of us give them credit for being.

That is so cute! And sorry…but I have to say I LOVE how she says “no” when you try and mess with her mind. Its like if she could say “how many times do I have to tell you that you get green mommy. Get it straight”...she totally would! You guys are raising a orderly smarty!!!
Her anal retentiveness is adorable. And this is coming from someone who has completely color coded her life. Not joke they tease me about it in my office. Great video, I needed a giggle on a day like today.

I confess, the pea-d on the floor comment is a long time family joke.
Like. Every. Time. Someone. Drops. A. Pea.
And LB always watches everyone else’s videos and calls them her friend. “See my friend?” So it’s cracking me up that your kids are doing the same. These little people are a hoot. (I said Hoot like an 80 year old. Yes I did.)
I cracked up a few seconds into it when you suggested “go get mommy’s plate” and she goes “Okay!” like it’s such an exciting mission. Then when you asked her “How do you make mommy coffee” I was half expecting her to say “Go to Stabucks!”
The color thing I think is a rite of passage, or my boy’s anal-retentive compliments of his own mommy. He gets mad if you mess up his color-coordinated lego skyscraper.
btw - I never knew her real name before! Learn something new every day…
OCD occurs along a wide spectrum. She is not OCD (yet?), but she is darn cute!
She may also be exhibiting a bit of synesthesia, which is not that unusual in early childhood. It involves criss-cross among sensory modalities, like smelling colors or feeling sounds. Something about each family member (smell, sound, look, etc.) may make her think of those colors.
Or she may just like categories! I predict she’ll be a labeler.

And we get served “tea” all day long. You’d think we were British.
