My Own Little Time Warp

Do you see people and think, “OMG! It’s Matt! Matt! HI! HI! HI!” and then realize this guy looks like the Matt you knew in college, looks the EXACT same and it’s been ten years?

Ten years.

The Matt you used to know probably has grey hair and a small belly like you do. Also, he probably is not taking Freshman CS 101 since he passed that class 14 years ago, graduated, and is now (last you heard anyway) a manager at a big chemical plant in eastern Washington. Still, though, you SWEAR it’s him. In fact, you even say, “Matt?”

And boy do you feel dumb when he says, “What? Who?”

Oy.

Try moving back to the town where you went to college…I see people that I think I recognize all the time. (I usually end up staring and trying to recall names instead of actually saying “Matt?!?”)  I think I expect to see people that I know in the same places I saw them at in college…

BUT I AM convinced that the outcast-looking college kids waiting for the campus bus that I pass these days ARE the same ones I rode the bus with, yes, 10 years ago.

I’m so with you.  And I’m always having someone tell me “You look like…..”  Thanks.  I’m just me.

I am always like “hey looks that’s Brian!”

And then never go and say anything. Cuz I am a dork!

That’s a lot better than saying, “Hey, Brian!”

Dawn, LOL! I did that to a guy.  I think he thought I was hitting on him. Until I said, “uh, James?”

He’s a personal trainer at our gym. I still see him and cower to the corner with my iPod. Duh. I still feel so stupid.

Mari, ding her anyway. Maybe she’ll be a NEW friend! heh.

My ex has an uncanny memory for faces.  Once at a banquet room she saw one of the waiters and said, “Hey, I went to first grade with him.  His name is August.”  And it was him!  It’s happened on more than one occassion.

Wow. To be right after all that time? I always think I’m right when I see someone. “Isn’t that the gal from that movie?”

Mr. Flinger laughs with (no, at) me ALL the time for this. It’s a problem with my brain. grin
