On Parenting Very Young Children

We were at the dinner table the other night, when the conversation turned surreal:

“No, look, Elmo and Zoey would never get along as a married couple. Zoey is way out of Elmo’s league.”

“You think? I dunno, Elmo is pretty famous. Maybe she’d marry him for the money.”

“Do you think people without kids even know who Elmo and Zoey are? And why do we know this shit so well?”

“You think if you asked someone without kids which Wiggle they thought was the hottest, they’d think we were on something?”

“We should be on something. Clearly it’s the blue one.”

“Oh, yea, I can see that. The women all want the blue wiggle. But I’m pretty sure the red one is gay.”

“I’m really disappointed we know this.”

“You know what sucks more? If you say ‘Fruit Salad’ I say ‘Yummy Yummy.’”

“Lets go watch something blow up. I need to be a man.”

I must admit to having the ‘hottest wiggle’ conversation, but among my friend we’re all in agreement the purple one is the one in the closet. Now Zoey being out of Elmo’s league? THAT I hadn’t thought of. You think Rosita is more his type?

I don’t know, I would think those that *don’t* have these kinds of conversations are in the minority. I feel a bit sorry for myself that I can’t really address these topics with any authenticity, as my youngest is now 8.

We have to talk about Finn vs. Puck or who’d be more fun, Phineas or Ferb.

O, Mrs. Flinger…I do miss the Elmo conversations.  We now have those same conversations about musicians and reality show stars.  We really should be on something…

Colleen, OMG, YES. Rositta is totally his type. She probably makes a really good dinner, too. But you’re kidding, right? THE PURPLE ONE?! You mean Greg. Greg is the hot one. The purple one is the tiny dude that could be crushed with a twig. Not so much sexy.

Alyson, I’m validated! YEY. Might need to have another baby, though, to keep up on Sesame Street.  But ONLY for that purpose.

Eileen, those are conversations my friends and I have. :-D

Anthony the blue Wiggle is TOTALLY the hottest one. Without question.

And it is physically impossible for me to hear the words “fruit salad” without following it up with a “yummy yummy.”

My 7 year old said to me a couple weeks ago, apropos of nothing, “Mom, I’m disappointed in Shaggy.”

    “Why?”

“Because he chose a DUMB DOG over a GIRL.”

Anthony is the hot one fo’ sho’!  My husband and I have been in conversations with non-parents and then we suddenly look at each other and laugh because we realize they have no idea who Phineas & Ferb are…

We are the only couple within our group that has two kids but another set has just announced that they are pregnant with their second.  My first reaction was happiness.  My second reaction was:  (giggle, giggle) I hope the new baby sneezes when you have her diaper off and consequently rockets liguid shit onto your chest…welcome to the club!

    Is this normal?

The purple one is, ahem, alternative I’ve heard.  Not the red one.  The red, blue and yellow are all married (to girls) I believe.  Okay, yeah, is it sad I’m joining in this discussion like I know what I’m talking about?  Sigh.

Blue Wiggle Anthony all the way.  How is there even a question about this? People have eyes right?  I used to be on his fan website just to discuss all things Anthony.  Weird sickness.  I think it was the purple who was closeted also.  (Wouldn’t that be where the song, “Where’s Jeff?” came from?  “Where’s Jeeeffff, in the closet.  Where’s Jeeefffff, being self ashamed.”)

We have these weird conversations too.  Ours range from why Max and Ruby don’t have parents, to why Mickey’s ears never go sideways on Clubhouse, to wth is up with Muno?  I mean really what is the motivation behind how that character looks?!  Reminds me of something….hmmmm, maybe something that may or may not have been handed out at blogher…Anyway, you are not alone.  If it weren’t for children’s television we might not have anything to discuss or might have to have REAL conversations.  Yuck.
