Part 2: Combating/Preventing PPD* updated now with more strusell (muffin—- get it?)

The second, and to me the most helpful, tip my shrink (yes, yes, I have one, get over it already) is to exercise.

Uh. WHAT? Exer-hu?

I know. You’re not sleeping. You’re tired. You’re fat. (You feel fat, lemme rephrase this, you ARE NOT FAT. You just had a baby and your body is yelling at you to be nice, damnit!) And now you’re expected to go workout. Right?

Right.

The thing is, working out is more than just a thing to get in the way of washing bottles/nursing/laundry/being asleep. It’s an energizer. It actually changes your brain chemistry. It helps you get your body back and it develops your muscles to handle the schlepping around of that baby of yours. It strengthens your back to carry your new, heavier, bobs. And it can can give you a high you’d need a drug to get otherwise.

So why not join our weighloss wars fitness challenge? You can start Monday, October 22nd, in a pool of women willing to pay ten bucks for am onth of motivation, a chance at losing some weight, and the knowledge that even if you don’t win, you can get a little high in the meantime and make some friends.

Sounds good, right?

So join. And maybe I’ll share with you my before picture. Tomorrow. Yea. Tomorrow. Instead, let me show you my before, before pic. You know, the “three months before I got knocked up again” picture? Which will, hopefully, look like my after shot. Minus the muffin-top.

One year after having LB I was back to here.. good but not anywhere near where I was before. I had ten more pounds to lose at date of this picture.

Five months after having Baby O. .... Yikes .....

Doncha just hate how pregnancy randomly changes your body?  I mean, things that never bothered you before are suddenly all “OH HAI!  I just wanted to introduce myself… I’m Cellulite, and this is my friend Muffin Top.  We live next door to Spider Vein and Hemmorhoid.  Your body is a great place to be, so we think we’ll stay awhile.  Oh, and we talked to Muscle Tone and Weight Loss and they’re taking a little vacation.  They’re staying at Restful Sleep’s place for awhile…”

    Things I used to actually NOT hate about my body (like my lower back) are now fraught with pudginess (even though I lost the baby weight).  NOT FAIR!  Of course, it doesn’t help that I’m old…

    HANG IN THERE!!  PROVE ME WRONG!  I DARE YOU!!!!!  smile

    I saw your picture before I read that it is the “before before” picture, and was all, “what does she need to lose weight for? She looks great” and I hated you a little. Then I read that it was “before” and felt better.

  11. Um, yeah.  Add in a lot more weight and a bit more of a belly, an extra year post-partum, and that’s me.  I swear, after this next baby’s born and my body wants me to exercise again (around 4-6 weeks) we’re going walking and biking like it’s out of style.

  14. You’re right about the exercise thing!  You just have to actually begin exercising to reap the benefits.  Even knowing this little tidbit of information doesn’t get MY butt to the gym as often as it should.  However, I have more motivation in the form of currency!  Hee hee hee!!!

  15. I think I love you.  Just found you via amalah.  Also have a almost five month old, and same stomach.  Thank you for making me realize that A) body is ok for having two kids X no exercise. and B) may have a touch of the PPD, but no time to deal with it and a two.5 year old.  Just thanks.
